Jamaica College (JC) is a "Trust School" within the meaning of the Education Act and the Education Regulations 1980 (often called the "Code").
JC is owned by the Jamaica College Trust which owns the lands and assets of the school and nominates seven members of the Board of Management including the Chairman.
The Education Regulations stipulate that the Board shall also be comprised of all the key stakeholder bodies namely:
1. The Principal
2. The Administrative Staff Representative
3. The Ancillary Staff Representative
4. The Students Council Representative
5. The Alumni Assoc Representative
6. The Parent Teachers Association Representative
7. The Local Community Representative
8. The Academic Staff Representative
9. The National Council on Education Representative
The Board created the Jamaica College Foundation in 2006 to be its fundraising arm → JC Foundation
In addition to the lands of the school, the Jamaica College Trust also owns all the intellectual property of the school including its logos, trademarks, insignia and even the right to use the name. The Trust delegates all of these to the Board to utilise in the running of the school.
The Principal is the Chief Executive Officer of the school and operates it in accordance with the polices set by the Board. He reports to the Board and, along with his management team, (VPs, Bursar, Deans, Dorm and plant managers) oversee the daily operations of the school → School Management.
